The President of Cornell University’s HR Review, Matthew Peterson, invites you to participate in the 5th Annual Student Essay Competition. It is open to all graduate and undergraduate students pursuing a degree in HR, business, labor relations, industrial & organizational psychology or another related discipline.

The competition is a great way to get on the radars of leading HR executives. Top essays will be evaluated by a panel of judges from GE, Shell, Dell (sponsors of the competition) and Cornell and winning essays will be published on the HR Review website. Additionally, winners will be invited to attend Cornell’s Human Capital Symposium in fall 2014—an excellent opportunity to interact with some of the world’s top HR executives. Travel assistance may be available. Cash prizes will be awarded: $1000 for first place, $500 for second, and $250 for third.

Participants must respond to one of three prompts available on the HR Review website. They cover the topics of cultivating non-Western leadership styles abroad, the role of HR as an employee advocate, and the challenges of employing knowledge-sharing practices. Essays need to be 1,000–1,600 words in length.
